Monica lives with her daughter Carol and receives a Home Care Package. Monica’s GP recently recommended that Monica have ongoing use of an oxygen concentrator. Carol had been talking to Monica’s service provider for a number of weeks about accessing and paying for Monica’s oxygen equipment through her Home Care Package but the service provider has not been very responsive.
Carol contacted the Older Persons Advocacy Network seeking support to resolve her concerns. The advocate met with Monica and Carol and supported them to talk to the service provider about providing access to the oxygen equipment as a matter of urgency. When the advocate became involved the service provider was more amenable to ensuring Carol and Monica were assisted, resulting in Monica’s care needs being met.
